Joe Strummer says you should buy Airshow!
Exerpted from Eye Magazine (11-25-99) TORONTO GETS FAT Canada loves punk rock! Well, at least enough for California's Fat Wreck Chords to set up a branch here. Veteran punk/indie promoter and publicist Melanie Kaye is the new label manager, sharing a downtown office with local label Teenage U.S.A. and Courage Management. To celebrate the new branch (and Kaye's birthday), Fat threw a bash at the Cameron last weekend, unfortunately sans "secret" performance from Sick of It All (who were reportedly turned away at the border). Instead, Armed & Hammered's Mopa Dean played DJ. Fat, which includes the imprints Honest Don's (home to Calgary's Chixdiggit!) and Pink & Black (for woman-heavy acts), is distributed in Canada by Sonic Unyon and FAB, and released a new disc from NOFX this week entitled The Decline. A few haggard faces at the party were likely due to the gathering of the punk tribes at the Joe Strummer show the night before, where the still-rockin' punk daddy-o advised everyone to buy the new CD by Parts Unknown, which he pronounced as "Part-Sunk-Nown." Strummer later thrilled post-show partiers at the Bovine Sex Club with a visit, as did Wilco's Jay Bennett. You see, the truth is Derek, our trusty lead singer, catapulted a copy of airshow onto the stage (he figured Joe would not care for his underwear, should he dare, make his bum bare.)
