Opscene Jan. 2000
Band from Toronto who spend two years long walking in and out of the studio to cut their little diamonds. And it was in any case time well spent. Parts Unknown have welded a mixture of pop, noise and krautrock in the best traditions (Fall, Sonic Youth, Can) to a string of fragile songs in which meditations from singer Derek Westerholm about living and dying pass by. All the details of this CD were carefully done. Right from the atmoshpheric production of Dale Morningstar (GSYBE! amongst others) to the artwork. Maybe the only minor quibble is the false start as victory is only sealed on the second half (of the album)
